The Austin-based ambient duo, FiRES WERE SHOT, returns to its original label It’s Only Me Records with the fifth album of their long and enigmatic career.  Pieces of the White Sun is a collection of songs that continues the band’s tradition of ambient and drone-influenced vignettes.

As with earlier FiRES WERE SHOT albums, Pieces of the White Sun displays a unique and gritty warmth that blends raw acoustic guitar tones, structurally uncomplicated and looping melodies, and soaring delay effects. However, this latest stage in the band’s evolution reveals a more tangible and explicit sound than in previous releases.

In Pieces of the White Sun, John Wilkins and Clay Walton have conjured up an emotionally-charged collection of songs that is a heart-on-your-sleeve scrapbook of artifacts drawn from elusive memories, a revelation in reverie, and a triumphant surrender to the mingling of sadness and joy. The fact that the record contains the first song the duo recorded together, along with the entire album having been recorded on a 4-track cassette machine, further adds to its aura of retrospection.

Pieces of the White Sun is available on cassette and as a digital download.
